Intermediate Sculpture: Handbuilding Projects

Using techniques learned in the Fundamentals of Handbuilding class, the student will complete finished glazed projects designed to help the student master design and other essential techniques. Students can decide to do either Option 1 or Option 2 or both. Either option can be taught in the same class. The student can pick up their fired and glazed pieces on what would be class 7 day.

Option 1
Bring a plant to class to take inspiration from, make your idea of the perfect planter for it. Take into consideration every element of the plant, its size, shape, what it represents, get creative!

Option 2
Bring a photograph of a favorite animal or pet, make a caricature sculpture of it's likeness. Take into consideration every aspect of that animal, it's personality, daily activities, we are not looking for a clay replica of your animal, we want the essence of that animal to shine through your piece.

Class 1: Sketching, making small models, making a decision and prep work.
Class 2-5: Work days (pieces will be bisque fired).
Class 6: Glazing

*This class can be taken again if the student only wants to tackle one option at a time.

Class fee includes all clay, glazes, and firing used in class. A basic kit of pottery tools is required and is available for purchase at the studio. Students may want to bring an apron or wear old clothes. All supplies are included in cost and students have use of the studio’s equipment during the course.
Missed classes can be made-up within the eight-week session but cannot be credited toward the next session.
A $100.00 non-refundable deposit required at time of registration. The balance will be payable when the class begins.
